Ohaguro was used as a Japanese aesthetic in which people blackened their teeth as a form of fashion. Ohaguro was mainly applied by married woman and those in imperial families. It is made of a unique mixture of Kanemizu — an acetic acid with dissolved iron, gallnut powder, and tannin powder. It was applied once every couple of days. They were more attracted to the black color of Ohaguro because after painting their skin white with rice powder their teeth seemed yellow in comparison which was less appealing.
